Beyond Payroll: Managing the Hidden Costs of High-Volume Collections
For law firms practicing creditors rights, payroll is the undisputed king of the budget. But focusing solely on salaries can blind partners to the many other expenses that quietly chip away at profitability. From unmanaged contract renewals, to rising compliance obligations, vendor fees, and litigation costs, the true financial health of a firm is often determined by how effectively these “hidden costs” are managed.
This panel will pull back the curtain on the top non-payroll expenses that make-or-break profitability in a legal collections practice. The panel will dive deep into operations, finance, compliance, and technology expenses. We will share strategies for negotiating smarter vendor contracts, implementing strategies to stay on top of recurring expenses, and balancing offshoring or outsourcing with quality and compliance expectations. Smaller firm insights will also be included, offering a range of perspectives on managing costs across different firm sizes.
Attendees will walk away with actionable strategies to evaluate investments in automation and technology, streamline compliance and audit preparation, optimize litigation spend, and control essential services like banking, payment processing, and specialized vendor support.
For partners and senior attorneys charged with steering their firms’ finances, this session offers a candid look at where money is lost and how to redirect it to fuel long-term resilience.

Daniel Struna from Atticus is back this year to host a workshop to help you develop a strategy for a well-planned, successful exit. From preparing your firm for transitions and how to add value along the way, to setting expectations for the highest valuation and weighing your options, this workshop will help your firm plan for a successful transition and you will leave with actionable insights.

Valuation Bootcamp: Unlocking the True Value of Your Law Firm
Whether you’re preparing for succession, bringing on new partners, or simply seeking to understand your firm’s worth, valuation is a critical part of long-term success. In this interactive workshop, we will demystify the complex process of assessing law firm value, at the firm level, at the individual partner level and everything in between.
Participants will gain insight into the drivers that enhance value and the detractors that diminish it, with real-world examples tailored to the legal collections industry. The session will explore how financial performance, client diversification, and practice mix affect valuation outcomes, as well as how deal structures, such as earn-outs, seller notes, and retained equity play into succession and sales scenarios.
Attendees will learn how valuation considerations differ based on the role a partner plays, where the partner is in their career arc, and more. From balancing short-term payouts with long-term growth, to understanding private equity’s evolving role in this sector, this bootcamp-style session will provide practical frameworks and take-home tools to help you make informed decisions.
Whether you’re planning for transition or simply want to strengthen your firm’s position in the marketplace, this session will equip you with strategies to understand, grow, and ultimately maximize your firm’s value.
